What you should know about Autism South Africa
Discovering Autism is geared towards all professionals, with or without an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Psychologists as well as educators would benefit from the workshop. The information session is intended for professionals who have involvement with persons with Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder, although the principles of behaviour management can be applied in all educational settings. Topics include: i) Introduction to Autism and the Core Areas of Impairment ii) Introduction to Autism Intervention iii) Understanding and Managing Challenging/Problem Behaviour. HO: Practical Aspects is geared towards all professionals, with or without an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The HOA: Practical Aspects is intended for professionals who have involvement with persons with Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder, although the principles of behaviour management can be applied in all educational settings. Hands On Autism: Moving Forward Module 1 is geared towards all professionals, with or without an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Parents and classroom assistants would also find value in the course. HANDS ON AUTISM: Moving Forward (Module 1) AUTISM SPECIFIC TRAINING: - HANDS ON AUTISM: Moving Forward is a collaborative effort between Autism South Africa and the Johannesburg Hospital School to provide affordable, practical and experiential ASD specific training to teachers, therapists and even classroom assistants.: - HANDS ON AUTISM: Moving Forward was created by Claire Allen, Tam Bennett and Reinette Lombard who collectively have more than 20 years HANDS-ON experience in the field of Autism.: - HANDS ON AUTISM: Moving Forward is based on a combination of ASD approaches that are internationally accepted as best practice for ASD intervention.: - HANDS ON AUTISM: Moving Forward consists of a combination of theoretical sessions and practical application. The workshop is accredited by the Health Professions Council for all disciplines.: - Participants will receive a hand-out for each topic and all resource materials will be supplied for the practical sessions.: - Participants will receive a CD with Visual-over-verbal tasks and will have the opportunity to create practical learning materials to be taken away.: - Participants will receive a Makaton: Stage 1 Vocabulary pocket book and will have an opportunity to create a picture communication folder.
