The reality is that these living, breathing assets can get sick, or hurt, or need surgery and, in the worst-case scenario, they can die. The costs of owning and taking care of a horse can be onerous and it makes financial sense to ensure that unforseen and unplanned expenses are fully covered. The policy chosen is usually a combination of cover against veterinary fees, mortality and liabilities. Should you be faced with the unfortunate event of a mortality claim please call us as soon as possible so we can assist you with the necessary documentation that we require from the vet before the carcass is disposed of. We will require a Post Mortem report with Identification of the horse.We understand this is a difficult time for any client so we would be more than happy to assist with this at any time of night or day. Please refer to our contact page and save our 24/7 cell number in your phone so you have constant contact with the Equipagé team.Report any event to the Police within 48 hours if the claim involves body injury, theft or any other criminal acts.Should your horse be unresponsive to treatment at home and require life-saving intervention in a clinic and you have the Critical Care Cover you can breathe a sense of relief and not have to worry about the invoice at discharge. Just give us a ring and we’ll get in contact with the Veterinary Clinic so that you are not asked for a deposit on admittance to the clinic. We are available to you 24 hours a day.Public Liability Cover Claims can get tricky so never admit guilt nor offer a settlement to any other party involved in an incident in which You are involved. Get hold of us straight away so we can get the legal professionals to deal with this for you.Loss of Use Claims – should your horse be permanently disabled and you have the Loss of Use Cover extension added on your policy please advise us immediately. We will require reports from your veterinarian proving such disability.
SHU Equine Veterinary Insurance Claims - Email an Equipagé contact for the SHU claim form.Horsebox/Tack Cover Claims – for any theft of tack or horseboxes (tyres) please make sure the theft is reported to the police (within 48 hours) as you will be required to provide us with a case number. For horsebox damage due to accidents we will require two quotations to fix the damages. For broken tack through accidents we will require a quotation sent to us for repair of the tack or if unrepairable then the replacement of the tack. PAW PAW Pet Health Insurance - Contact our office / email heather@equipage.co.za for the PAW PAW Pet Health Insurance Claim form. The necessary Claim forms can be downloaded from our website but we will send them to you via your email as soon as you advise us of the claim. Mortality CoverMORTALITY COVER INSURANCE protects against financial loss due to the untimely death of your horse.Mortality Cover will cover for death due to accident, illness, disease, theft and whilst in transit or if your veterinary surgeon has to put the horse down on humane grounds as a result of an accident, sickness or disease.Age Limits: Birth up to and including a maximum of 20 years. Veterinary Certificates are required for horse's incepted at birth.A Veterinarian's Report for Insurance Purposes is required for Insured Values greater than R100,000.00 at inception of the policy. This is ultimately a requirement that offers you greater protection in the event of a claim arising. If the horse is 16 years or older a Veterinary Certificate will be required at inception of the policy irrespective of insured value. Veterinary Certificates must not be dated more than 1 month prior to the inception date of the policy.Identification: A satisfactory ID from the horse's Passport, microchip number, brand markings or 4 x full length photos are required. Identification of the horse on the Veterinary Certificate will also suffice.We need to be advised of any injury, illness or operation of any description that your horse may undergo. If your horse dies for any reason whatsoever please ensure that you have an autopsy report done with all the descriptive markings and identification by the vet concerned. We need to be notified within 48 hours of any death claims.The rate, a percentage of the insured value, is based on the age and use of the horse.Additional coverage such as Loss of Use and SASRIA Cover can be taken out in conjunction with the Mortality Cover.
SHU Equine Veterinary InsuranceThis is an insurance product designed to cover the unexpected veterinary fees that horses may incur as the result of a illness or injury. Any horse older than 8 weeks, younger than 19 years and kept in the RSA may apply for cover under this policy.
In the absence of proof of previous continuous equivalent insurance for a period of more than 1 year, there will be a waiting period of 3 months for any treatments as a result of illness or disease. Accidental injury claims will be covered from inception of the policy.This policy is subject to an annual overall limit of R80 000 for a premium of R565 per month.

SHU Equine Veterinary InsuranceThis is an insurance product designed to cover the unexpected veterinary fees that horses may incur as the result of a illness or injury. Any horse older than 8 weeks, younger than 19 years and kept in the RSA may apply for cover under this policy.
In the absence of proof of previous continuous equivalent insurance for a period of more than 1 year, there will be a waiting period of 3 months for any treatments as a result of illness or disease. Accidental injury claims will be covered from inception of the policy.This policy is subject to an annual overall limit of R80 000 for a premium of R565 per month.
