We combine risk advisory services with strategic communications to help our clients identify opportunity, mitigate risk and overcome critical communications challenges. In 2013 we co-founded a financial advisory firm called Alkebulan to help our clients source growth capital. We operate at the intersect of industry, government and media. We supply our clients with the insights and services they need to manage often complex relationships with regulators, capital markets, media, industry and communities. We gather information and intelligence, analyse it and develop advocacy and engagement strategies for our clients to succeed in challenging and competitive operating environments. A major chemical company had manufacturing capabilities in only two African countries, despite having been on the continent for several decades. Opportunities in Africa were increasing and the company wished to be a part of that growth story through restructuring its business. Our market entry and comms support improved brand awareness and positioning across new territories in East and West Africa. A major international mining company, with a flagship project in West Africa, was experiencing uncertainty around security of tenure and its relationship with the government. It also had a negative image and reputation locally. Better understanding of the political and commercial context improved the clients negotiating position; agreement was reached on tenure. We advise some of the largest institutions, companies and investors on the continent. We live and work according to our core values: committed, courageous, candid, curious, cross-border. Our people have joined africapractice from a variety of disciplines. We are politicians, analysts, project managers, journalists, diplomats, public relations professionals and economists. All of us are trained communicators and all of us have analytical minds. He has fifteen years’ experience supporting African nations to attract investment and pursue preferential trade relationships. He has supplied strategic communications, advocacy and public diplomacy services to multilateral agencies and a dozen African governments, as well as many of the largest private-sector investors in Africa. Prior to joining africapractice in 2003 Marcus was a Director and Head of International Government Affairs at one of the world’s largest strategic communications consultancies.
