Golf Club in Johannesburg, Club in Johannesburg

To encourage, promote and co-ordinate the activities of members within the Golf club and externally. We run an annual order of merit competition based on the Net Medal Scoring system. The winner of the order of merit is the one that has the lowest score (best of 6 games). The Champion of the Club is decided in November when the Club stages a Year-End /Champion of Champions tournament. To qualify for this prestigious tournament, a member has to finish in the top Only 24 members qualify for a chance to play for the Championship. Dinaledi is a member of UGS, having joined in We play match play tournaments against the members of UGS, with the winner declared in October of each year. Over the past years Dinaledi has supported many initiatives in the various locations where we have held our Champ of Champs events. Before Ruimsig Country Club became what it is known and hyped for today, one must note where it all started. In recent years the region has experienced rapid development to which Ruimsig Country Club can boast a thriving and cosmopolitan membership. The ease of access and ample parking, with the Ruimsig clubhouse offering entertainment areas, accommodating upwards of 200 people, enhances the success and simplicity of the venue. 3 large function halls with state-of-the-art conference facilities for large or small, corporate or intimate gatherings are easily adaptable to accommodate visitors. Golf House runs the well supported golf shop headed by PGA Head Professional, Gavin Drummond having taken over from well-known professional Craig Ross, who served the club loyally for ten years and is now resident at Royal Cape Golf Club. Phil Jacobs (now a designer on his own) and Danie Obermeyer (who also became a design consultant) have served as green keepers at the club. Mike Wallington also started his green keeping career at this club. For a period of 7 years the club out sourced the maintenance of the course to Topturf. In 2013 Matthew Ngoza, a greens staff member that has been with the Club for the last 16 years was appointed as the green keeper. It is for its demanding and unusual golf course that Ruimsig Country Club first became famous and has remained in the limelight. There are several dams on the course, which have been used strategically, but these were created for storage purposes and the overall feel of the layout remains wild and free.It is a big course, exhilarating to play, not least because of the strong winds, which typically blow over the open fairways, putting a premium on shot making and imagination. These are considerably bigger than what is used to encountering in South Africa, and are distinctive in their subtle featuring. The course is well balanced, with good variations of long and short holes. Ruimsig Country Club is quite simply an outstanding course, always in excellent condition, and a thrill to play. Not least because one is surprised and beguiled by the different challenges it offers from those more routinely encountered on our highveld.
