The Foxees business model was conceived in 1995 when the Montreal Protocol was being introduced to ban the use of asbestos in products all over the world. Once the heat output was reduced to accommodate the product, things started to happen. A high density ceiling board was found to be hard and tough enough to withstand the rigors of the heating element. The size of the ceiling board led to the sizing of the panel to obtain the maximum number panels with the absolutely minimum wastage. Production commenced but found that the squareness of the boards varied too much, so we developed a moulded board frame with the supplier to have the panels cast. In consultation with the Supplier, Foxees tweaked the formula to allow better heat dispersion and curing of the cement fibre. Foxees found that the fixing screws, caps, spacers and plugs were clumsy and were not freely available; we developed a mould to make the polypropylene pins and spacer-plugs to replace them and the covers. The panel heater was designed to be intrinsically safe for all environments, which meant that no switch or thermostat would be allowed to be part of the unit. The units were submitted to the IEC, SABS and Radio Communications for testing and it passed with excellent results. The market requested free standing heater and this led to the Heater stand of Foxees’ design. The safety of the heater allowed a towel rack to be added to dry laundry inside the rooms. Next, there were requests to warm the feet of persons working on tiled floors. Standards as well as being passed by Postal telecommunications and Radio Industry. The heating elements are completely enclosed by cellulose cement fibre boards which do not conduct electricity, making it safe to touch with no chance of accidental burns or scorching by anyone especially children or pets. The Oak Stand is made from solid Canadian Oak or hard wood of choice with the panel inserted into the wooden frame giving the panel maximum support and strength. The heater stand does not dry out the air because its temperature is well below that of boiling water. The Foxees Foot Warmer is safe to use on all types of surfaces including carpets, wooden flooring, cement floors etc. As none of its heating elements are exposed, it is extremely pet and child safe the double insulation reduces the risk of electrical shock as well as the ingress of liquids. Only 10 mm thick and with sloped sides, there is very little chance of tripping over it.
