Max bought the land and operated as a blacksmith, which was later sold to his son Lou Appel, who then started his second hand parts business, originally believed to have been named Lou Appel's Motor Graveyard, with its logo being a scull and cross bones. The land was empty except for a small house, which became the offices. It was later that the now deceased Mr. Chris Wessels, a mechanic, together with the help of the now deceased Mr. Lou Appel, build the main double story building and the various additional storage facilities on the land. Mr. Chris Wessels continued to work as an employee for the company. He changed the original company to a close corporation and continued operating the Lou Appel's spares business until 2014, when he sold a major portion of his business to his son Leron Appel, in order to guarantee the continuance of the Lou Appel's second hand parts business. This Lou Appel's business has been in existence in 1 name or another, for over 90 years and is now in its third generation.
