Mynhardt subdivided the area into four portions in the early 1890’s. Miners were absorbed into mines in the Germiston area. During this period many Afrikaans families came to live in Edenvale, as an interest in mining grew. As a largely mining community, many families were hit hard as miners were un-employed for many months. In 1939 Edenvale became a village and in 1954 was proclaimed a Municipality. Lights and water installations, which became available in 1938, stimulated a building boom in the Edenvale Municipal Area. Stay-A-While Guest House is laid out on three adjoining quarter acre stands. This house was originally built circa 1916 and had remained in the Roetz family for three generations. Relatively unchanged, the house conjures up images of the early days of Edenvale, when there were no cars or electricity. Mrs Eales was born in the house in 1918 and so was her daughter many years later; she lived in the house until her death in Her daughter still lives with her family in Edenvale. All suites have access to wireless internet as well as DSTV. A fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and a courtesy tray with coffee, tea, sugar and creamers is available in each suite. The gardens have prolific bird-life because of the indigenous trees and nests. This area also has a braai facility for barbeques and bonfires. For Residents we provide a Buffet style cold breakfast or a cooked breakfast made to order. Breakfast is prepared by our in house chef and guests can enjoy their food whilst sitting in our relaxing terrace dining patio or informal lounge areas. We have on our doorstep three champion Golf courses: Modderfontein, Royal Johannesburg & Kensington and Glendower. By arrangement we can organize on your behalf, a round of golf and transportation. We can arrange a night or weekend of dinner, show or sporting events in and around Johannesburg. Simply ask, give us warning and we will endeavour to provide.
