Kazang Prepaid is one of Africa’s leading micro-payment processing services and is a subsidiary of Paycorp, a leading provider of payments solutions in sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia and Eastern Europe. It provides typcally under-serviced consumers a way to conveniently pre-pay for essential products. What’s more, Kazang gives business owners, shopkeepers and other entrepreneurs in these areas the opportunity to supplement their income and grow customer loyalty by becoming a Kazang dealer and earning commission on each sale. Kazang operates predominantly in informal rural and peri-urban areas. All these sales front-ends are interfaced with Kazang Content Ready, a sophisticated switching service that handles thousands of micro-payments every minute. As well as services such as airtime, electricity, data bundles, DSTV and Lotto tickets, Kazang Prepaid vendors can sell financial services such as funeral policies or life insurance; handle money transfers; sell lifestyle services such as TopTV pre-paid subscriptions, ringtones, wall papers, music and so on. Indeed, the Kazang service has also been used for lead generation and advertising at the base of the pyramid. Over the past decade, Kazang Prepaid has handled more than 300 million transactions, comprising several billion Rands of products and services, in South Africa alone and has created in excess of 30,000 jobs in typically less prosperous communities. Kazang Prepaid services are currently being used under license in seven African countries as well as South Africa: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Prior to this, he had spent a decade in various financial roles at Psitek, joining as financial manager and becoming group financial manager when Saicom Group bought Psitek’s prepaid vending division. As chief designer at Psitek, Grant was instrumental in designing and building the fleet of payment and communications services, and hardware. Francois looks after all Operations and Support functions for Kazang locally and internationally. He started his career at Telkom as a Trainee Technician in 1982 and after qualifying, spent many years managing service delivery and support functions for Telkom, Siemens and Psitek in the Telecommunications industry. After completing his BCom at Wits University in 1988, Andrew began his career as a property developer. A serial entrepreneur, Andrew co-founded Teim Ventures, a niche angel investment management company. Andrew was also a founding member of the Saicom Group and became the Chief Executive Officer from 2010 until the acquisition of Psitek in March 2011 when he became Executive Chairman. Andrew is currently the Business Development Executive for Africa at Paycorp, where he oversees strategic partnerships across the continent. Having worked in both listed and unlisted groups including Metro Cash and Carry, W&A/FSI Group, Forza/CMH Group and CMH Marine and Leisure, Stephen has worked at a senior management level in the retail, distribution and services industries. Through various roles including Group Financial Director, Commercial Director and Managing Director, Stephen has extensive experience in all financial, operational and corporate aspects of business. With a BCom (Cum Laude) and a BAcc from Wits University, Wayne qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1997 after serving his articles at Arthur Andersen. Following this, he worked on mergers, acquisitions and in corporate finance within the investment banking division of Gensec Bank, all while completing his CFA.
