Universal Recycling Company is a scrap metal recycling company, processing and trading ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. Universal Recycling Company was formed in 1992 with the merger of A. Loewenthal Metals founded in 1938 by Alfred Loewenthal and Universal Metal Holdings, an associated company of the Cape Gate Group. The company provides trading, processing and transportation to the ferrous and non-ferrous recycling industry. Universal Recycling sources material from the local manufacturing industry, tenders, auctions, scrap metal dealers and local authorities, as well as public suppliers. The company has a long tradition of trading in most of the Southern African countries including Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Universal Recycling is a licensed waste processor, with a ISO 9001 accreditation. Universal Recycling processes ferrous scrap at its facility in Industria Johannesburg. It processes steel scrap for the steel and foundry industry. Universal Recycling purchases all types of copper and aluminium cable, which is processed by super croppers, croppers, rphpers, grinders, granulators and water tables to separate the metallics from the inorganics and contaminants to produce a metallic product for the consuming industry, both locally and internationally.
