As the custodian of security of energy supply for South Africa, the Department of Energy’s has since 2011, already procured 6,4GW of wind energy. Prior to this, she headedthe climate work in WWF International and served as the Head of Delegation for the organisation at the UNFCCC. Before joining WWF in 2008, she held the positions of Provincial Minister for the Environment, Planning and Economic Development and Provincial Minister of Transport, Public Works and Property Management in the Western Cape. Before becoming a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature in 1994, she was a trade unionist in COSATU Western Cape. Anton Eberhard is a Professor at the University of Cape Town where he directs the Management Programme in Infrastructure Investment, Reform and Regulation at the Graduate School of Business. His research and teaching focuses on governance and regulatory incentives to improve utility performance, the political-economy of power sector reform, investment challenges, and linkages to sustainable development. He has worked in the energy sector across Sub- Saharan Africa, and other developing regions, for more than 35 years and was the founding Director of the Energy and Development Research Centre. Prof Eberhard has more than 100 peer reviewed publications to his credit including three recent books: Independent Power Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa; Power Sector Reform and Regulation in Africa; and Africa’s Power Infrastructure: Investment, Integration and Efficiency. Currently she works for the CSIR as a Research Group Leader: Energy Industry. Previously she worked for the Department of Trade and Industry as a Director: Green Industries, where she was responsible for facilitating the development of the local renewable energy industry. Before joining the DTI, she spent 3 years at the Embassy of Denmark working as a Coordinator for the Business to Business Programme, where she facilitated business linkages between Danish and South African companies. She brings a wealth of 23 years’ experience within the financial services sector, where she has spent more than half of that within the Development Finance institutions. She has a Masters in Development Finance from Stellenbosch University, Honours in Commerce from the University of Cape Town and Bachelors in Commerce from the University of Western Cape. Mary Waller is a Manager at African Clean Energy Developments, a South African renewable energy developer which is actively involved in developing, bidding and implementing large-scale wind and solar PV projects in the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme. Mary is also a Member of the Board of the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA). Prior to joining ACED in 2009, Mary completed her Masters in Energy and Development Studies at the Energy Research Centre at the University of Cape Town. Mark has over 25 years’ experience in power sector issues. He has led numerous advisory processes on power and other infrastructure matters for national government departments, development agencies and local municipalities. He served on South Africa’s National Electrification Forum (NELF) in the early 1990’s, edited the 1998 White Paper on Energy, was a member of the Ministerial Advisory Forum on EDI Restructuring and led the team advising EDI Holdings’ on its legal strategy.For the past ten years Mark has pursued the development, construction and operation of independent power producers in South and Southern Africa. Globeleq is the majority shareholder in each of these assets and manages, operates and maintains the plants on behalf of all shareholders. Jess is the Director the Sustainability Institute, a non-profit trust working in research and capacity building for just and sustainable African futures. Jess is a PhD Candidate with the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town, holds an MPhil in Sustainable Development from Stellenbosch University and a BSc in Ocean and Environmental Sciences from UCT. Previously, she has led teaching and consulting programmes in corporate governance, sustainability and community development for the public and private sectors. She holds a Master’s degree in Latin American Sciences from the University of Rostock in Germany.
